Hearst Corporation, Skiff,LLC, and Sprint are offering this new and innovated Skiff Reader. It will be the first e-reader optimized for newspaper and magazine content. It is a sleek, thin, flexible, durable, easy to use, state-of-the-art device. It has a 11.5″ touchscreen, with a resolution of 1600 x 1200 pixels, it features the next generation of the largest and highest-resolution electronic-paper display, for a richer reading experience. It will have built in 3G wireless capabilities and will also support wireless connectivity via WiFi. It is just 1/4 ” in overall thickness. It weighs just over a pound, with a battery life of over a week.
An easy to hold, carry and use device. First-of-its-kind, metal-foil display with a magnesium housing, an incredibly sturdy durable device. LG Display, one of the world’s leading display manufacturers and the innovator of the foil-display technology, worked closely with Skiff to replace the standard glass display.
It has a full touch screen with content selection and navigation, turning pages, increasing or reducing font size with the swipe of a finger. You can also print documents to the Skiff over the network as a quick and easy way to move content to the device.
The Skiff has a Service platform, The Skiff Service and Digital Store, it will sell and distribute newspapers, magazines, books, blogs and other content. Gives periodical publishers tools to build and extend relationships with subscribers, and wirelessly deliver content and advertising. Skiff is working with major consumer electronics manufacturers to integrate Skiff’s service, digital store and client software into a range of innovative devices. The Skiff will feature visually appealing layouts, high resolution-graphics, dynamic updates and rich typography, supporting key design and qualities. There will be a full supply of subscription content and apps like Sodoku and crossword puzzles.
Skiff has entered into a multi-year agreement with Sprint to provide 3G connectivity for The Skiff. It will be available to purchase in more than 1,000 Sprint retail stores as well as online at sprint.com
