Lenovo was formed with the acquisition of the former IBM Personal Computing Division. They manufacture high-quality, highly innovated technological products. Lenovo is dedicated to building exceptionally engineered personal computers. Lenovo’s Idea Product Group’s Senior Vice President, Liu Jun says, “The IdeaPad U1 hybrid notebook is a game-changing technology in the PC industry that lets the user switch at will their PC experience to match their dynamic lifestyle. By fusing the functionality of a notebook with the slate tablet’s rich multi-touch entertainment and mobile Internet experience, U1 provides consumers the freedom to choose the device they prefer for any activity.”
The IdeaPad U1 is a dual multi-touch, thin and light laptop and notebook tablet in one device, it is a conceptually smart idea in packing two devices into one. As a whole it sports an 11.6-inch multi-touch screen, just slightly smaller than a piece of paper, runs on Windows 7(in laptop mode) on an Intel Core 2 Duo SU processor. It has 4GB of RAM, two USB 2.0 ports, eSATA, VGA, HDMI, 4-in-1 memory card reader, and a 1.3-Megapixel camera. The clam-shell look laptop and the multi-touch slate tablet each have their own processor and operating system that work either together or independently. It has the compatibility with all major media and file formats via cloud apps.
The device has been engineered to work together and independently through Lenovo’s Hybrid Switch technology that enables seamless toggling between the two processors. It is a shiny, translucent ruby color, with instant eye appeal. The tablet screen is solid and attractive, with edge-to-edge glass chromed edges. Separate batteries and Wi-Fi antennas are contained in both the base and the tablet screen. This device can work coordinating with each other, sharing power to browse on one section and continue on to browsing on the other section.
BASE FUNCTIONS
The base is a full function notebook, it looks like a regular laptop with the traditional clam-shell form. The system has an 11.6-inch HD LED touchscreen. It has an Intel CULV processor and a 128GB SSD for speedy storage, runs Windows 7 Home Premium. The base laptop system serves as a hub and docking station. You can surf the web in laptop mode. In this dual mode it weighs 3.8 pounds. When the base is detached it still can function as its own core 2 computer, independent of the tablet. It shares battery power for 3G wireless, data and documents, as well as speakers, webcam and Bluetooth antennas. It will support more than five hours of 3G Web browsing and 60 hours of 3G standby. Apps allow easy flipping for e-reading, browsing and other functions. It will have a raised and tapered keyboard.
DETACHED SLATE TABLET FUNCTION MODE
When switched from the traditional laptop mode, it becomes a 3G Multi-touch Slate Tablet for Mobile Internet. It switches to Lenovo’s Skylight Linux-based OS, in under 3 seconds according to Lenovo. It becomes its own handheld Qualcomm 1GHz Snapdragon powered tablet. The accelerometer automatically controls the portrait/ landscape screen rotation. It becomes an entertainment/internet tablet in this mode. It will continue to use this custom version of Linux and the Qualcomm ARM Snapdragon processor in this mode. It shares battery power for 3G wireless, data and documents. It will continue without interruption to surf the web when detached. It will also support more than five hours of 3G Web browsing and 60 hours of 3G standby. When detached it becomes a 1.6 pound tablet, with 16GB of solid state memory.
Users cans switch between a six-section display and a four section display. The six-section display is designed for the mobile Internet, by using the multi-touch function to easily access Web-based applications for email, calendars, RSS readers and social networking and browsing.
